Youth Services programmer (part-time)

We are looking for someone with a creative spark who will find engaging ways to share their interests and passions with the community through programming, outreach, and customer service interactions. An ideal candidate will be friendly, outgoing, creative, and a team player. Must be able to assist patrons with and provide instruction on the use of computers and other digital devices.

Youth Services Programmers have a variety of responsibilities that help make our Library a
welcoming learning environment for community members. The primary responsibilities of this position include:

• Developing, planning, and executing educational programs, including STEAM classes and LEGO programs for kids in grades K-5 and families.
• Assisting with reading programs, outreach, and passive programming as assigned.
• Providing excellent customer service by answering patrons’ questions in person and on the phone.
• Placing holds and checking materials out.
• Providing technology assistance.
• Accepting passport applications according to guidelines set by the U.S. Department of State.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, LTA certificate/certification, or equivalent in experience.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and orally.
• Provide courteous and friendly service to patrons and staff.
• Willingness to help the Library become a more inclusive environment for both staff and patrons.
• Knowledge of and interest in children's literature.
• Knowledge of STEAM principles and the ability to incorporate them into programming as appropriate.
• Previous experience working with children is desirable.
• Conversational Spanish is desirable.

Hours
Mix of daytime, evening, and weekend hours, averaging 22 hours per week. All Youth Services employees are required to work one evening per week and one weekend per month. The preferred schedule is: Tuesdays, 5-9 pm; Thursdays, 9 am-5 pm; Fridays, 9 am-5 pm; and the 1st weekend of the month (Saturday, 9 am-5 pm; Sunday, 1 pm-5 pm).

Pay
Position range is $17.49 to $22.50 per hour, depending on qualifications.
